Jharkhand From the legendary Asurs and Santhals to the Banjara, Bihor, Chero, Gond , Ho Lohra, Mai PahariyaMunda  , Oraon kol  or Kawar- over thirty-two tribal groups have let their impression on the culture of the region, and with them, were the cross cultural influences of local non-tribal communities and successive waves of Buddhism and Jainism, Mughal rule and reign of the Hindu emperors of Bengal.





Folk music  of the Jharkhand is also a noted factor in its cultural heritage. From generations, the tribal communities of Jharkhand are singing the tribal songs  like  Akhariya Domkach, Janani jhumar, Dohari  Domkach, Mardana JhumarPratkali and so on. These songs tell the saga of pain ,development, struggle foe existence and merry-making of the tribal  inhabitants of the state. The  folk songs of the Jharkhand are mild as well as vibrant  depending upon the situation and festival. PAIKA :  The Munda community of Jharkhand performs this dance. It is a stylized representation of the rituals connected with the preparation of war. The dancers hold bows and arrows, spears, swords and shields and the dance is, unact , a stylized form of worship of arms.

MUNDARI DANCE : It is a very  common and popular dance form of the  Mundaries.



ERAIKELLACHHAU  :  It is one o the three Chhau dance forms prevailing in eastern India, in the states of West Bengal ,  Odisha  And  Jharkhand.  This dance form, based on the  martial arts, incorporates the Veer Rasa  of the Indian dramatic spectrum. The  Seraikella Chhau is an art form, which  combines popular appeal with sophistication. The nature of the theme is  similar to those of the classical dance forms, but it has permitted the rank and file of the society .

The dances are usually vigorous .

The word Chhau is derived from the sanskrit word Chhaya whih implies shade, image or  mask .



Chhau of Jharkhand is very beautiful dance form where  the dancers cover their faces during the dance  with mask and it is the mask that attracts your attention  towards the dance. It is different from classical dance because , in the latter dance  form , facial expressions are a must whereas in Chhau , It is the body movements including  the  neck and head gestures to convey the stories.
